You've got the "why" ; We've got the "how".

S.M.A.R.T Goal Setting

When you are trying to determine how to set a realistic goal. A system used by Personal Trainers known as the S.M.A.R.T system, along with the knowledge of being able to determine your genetic body type, can greatly aide in setting a goal that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and capable of being Timed. (S.M.A.R.T.)

Look for the genetic body type that most suits your current position in the list below, then go to the Clear Solutions tab for our exercise strategies. Please look over the list carefully to best identify your body type.

The Ectomorph:

  • Naturally thin
  • Small frame, narrow shoulders
  • Long arms and legs
  • Long narrow feet and hands
  • Lean / Lightly muscled
  • Loses body fat easily
  • Difficulty gaining weight and muscle

The Endomorph:

  • Round, softer shape
  • Rounder face, shorter neck
  • Large chest with wider hips
  • Shorter arms and legs
  • Naturally high body fat levels
  • Gains muscle easily
  • Weight loss is difficult

The Mesomorph:

  • Muscular body / Naturally Athletic
  • Wider shoulders and narrower waist
  • Long torso
  • No difficulty losing body fat
  • Gains muscle easily

People are not usually a pure Endo, Ecto or Mesomorph body type, but rather a combination of two with a stronger tendency towards one body type. Simply losing or gaining weight will not change the shape of your body. A person with a pear shaped body will either have a larger or smaller pear shaped body with weight loss or gain. The only way to change the shape of your body is with resistance training.
